Frequently Asked Questions

How does online tutoring work?

Tutorials online are conducted over Skype or Zoom using BitPaper.

Skype or Zoom means students can see me and talk to me via a video call. You will need to download Skype or Zoom before your first session. You should call the Skype call testing service to make sure your microphone and speaker are set up properly. After that you are ready to go.

BitPaper is an interactive white board, it requires no download as it just works through a web browser, preferably Google Chrome. Please go to www.bitpaper.io and give it a try.

What is your availability?

My working hours are 8am - 9pm, Monday - Thursday and 8am - 2pm Saturday. Please email me to get my current availability. Please include in your email the days and times that you are available, and I will do my best to find you a suitable slot.

How often should we have tutorials?

The number of sessions that you want, is up to your own requirements and budget. The majority of my students have one or two sessions per week. Some independent students taking physics, chemistry and maths have had six sessions a week or more. For those students that require less time, on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, they can have two session per month. I am always flexible with my students. Should you want to increase or decrease your contact time with me I will accommodate your needs.

Is online tutoring as effective as face-to-face tutorials?

Online tutorials are usually more effective than face-to-face session. With a huge collection of resources at my fingertips, and the student in their own home, or other comfortable environment, this is more conducive to an effective learning environment. I find the majority of students prefer online tutorials to face-to-face once they try them.

The only times online tutorials are less effective is the few occasions when technology lets us down. But if you can get onto Skype an online tutorial will be effective.

How do we pay?

At the end of each calendar month I will send you an invoice to make payments, in arrears. Payment details will be shown on the invoice. I prefer payment by bank transfer if possible. PayPal payments are another option especially for international clients.
