Online Physics, Chemistry and Maths Tutor for Students in the Middle East and Hong Kong

The Online Physics Tutor provides one-to-one online tuition in physics, chemistry and maths for students following British and international curricula in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, Oman and Hong Kong. Lessons take place live over Zoom or Google Meet and are taught by Dr Andy Gibson (BSc, PGCE, QTS, MSc, PhD), a qualified teacher with experience as an exam board examiner.

Students study with us from Year 9 through to the final year of school and beyond. We also teach university entrance preparation and first-year undergraduate content for Physics.

Before the first lesson, we agree the student's exam board, target grade and exam date so that lessons follow the correct specification.

How lessons work

Every lesson is live and one-to-one, with a shared digital whiteboard (BitPaper). The student can see each step of an explanation or solution being built, ask questions and add thier own answers for assessment by a qualified examiner. After each lesson we send homework worksheet to test and expand on the tutorial, and develop exam technique.

Most of our sessions are used for the following:

Teaching topics from scratch, or filling gaps in understanding
Working through past-paper questions and mark schemes
Exam technique: how marks are awarded, and how to avoid losing them
Revision plans in the run-up to mock and final exams

Lesson times and time zones

I teach from the UK between the hours of 9am and 9pm UK time.

UAE and Oman (UTC+4): 3 hours ahead of the UK during British Summer Time, 4 hours ahead in winter.
Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait and Bahrain (UTC+3): 2 hours ahead of the UK during British Summer Time, 3 hours ahead in winter.
Hong Kong (UTC+8): 7 hours ahead of the UK during British Summer Time, 8 hours ahead in winter.

So after school time for you are during the day for me. This is why I want more students from the Middle East and Hong King to fill my time durung the day, while most kids in the UK are at school.

Do you tutor students who live outside the UK?
Yes. Tuition takes place entirely online, so we teach students in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, Oman and Hong Kong as well as in the UK. All that is needed is a computer or tablet, a reliable internet connection and either Zoom or Google Meet.

Which exam boards and qualifications do you cover?
We cover IGCSE, GCSE, AS and A-level, IB Diploma and AP in physics, chemistry and maths, and can help with university entrance exams. When a student starts, we agree their exam board and specification so that lessons match what they will be examined on. If you are unsure which board your school uses, ask their teacher or check the front of a past paper.

How much does online tuition cost?
See contact page for current rates. Fees are charged in pounds sterling and payment is by card or international bank transfer.

Who will be teaching my child?
Dr Andy Gibson, who holds a PhD in physics, a PGCE and Qualified Teacher Status, and has experience as an exam board examiner.

Do you teach chemistry and maths as well as physics?
Yes. In addition to physics we teach chemistry and maths at IGCSE, GCSE, A-level, IB and AP level. Students can take one subject or several.

How does an online lesson work?
Each lesson is a live video call over Zoom or Google Meet, using a shared whiteboard so that the tutor and student can write out working together. The tutor explains the topic, then the student attempts questions while the tutor gives feedback. Afterwards we send homework after every session.

Can I book a trial lesson?
Yes, a trial lesson costs the same as anyother. We usually advise booking just one session first, see how the student gets on with online tuition and us. Thereafter session are booked monthly in advance. Any session(s) cancelled with more than 48hours notice will be refunded.

Do you help with exam technique and past papers?
Yes. Exam technique is a core part of our tuition. We work through past papers with the mark scheme, showing how marks are awarded and where students commonly lose them, and we set personalised practice papers where useful.
